Generally for security reasons, we protect our memory cards with password. It can be done from Memory Card application by selecting Options | Set password.

So what if we forget the password. here are the tips to unlock thoes.

For S60 1st and 2nd Phones

For S60 1st and some of 2nd phones, such as Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6680 and Nokia N-Gage, the password is stored in a plain text file.

Method 1

• Firstly, you need to install FExplorer, a free file manager that allows us to browser through S60 file system.
• Next, launch FExplorer and then browser to c:\system folder. There is a file, called mmcstore.
• Rename the file to mmcstore.txt and then open it. Your password must be several characters at the end of the file.  

Method 2

• Download MMCPwd.sis by transfering using Bluetooth/infrared and install it
• Run the application and restore the password

For S60 3rd Phones

No way to recover it, unless format the memory card/MMC  the way you format it.

It can be done from Memory Card application by selecting Options | Format memory card menu

Smart2go is a compact programme for your mobile that allows you to load maps from around the world. Discover interesting places with ease, highlight them and get the route.

Initially available for S60 and Windows Mobile 5 it will later become available for other platforms. It is the same solution that is found in the Nokia N95. Mapping and route planning will be available free, but turn by turn voice navigation will be a premium service. Location is via any Bluetooth GPS. The download will be available from this Saturday.

Mapping and routing is available in over 100 countries with turn by turn navigation (at street level) available in 30 countries. Mapping can be downloaded over the air from a remote server or cross loaded from a PC. The application includes the ability to search by address (including postcode), view by category (nearest point of interest) and plan routes.

A Bluetooth GPS will be needed for positioning for those devices without a GPS built in. 

There will also be a companion PC application that allows you to cross load (install) maps of specific areas to your phone. This will mean it will not be necessary to download maps over the air. You will be able to take the maps that you want with you. Nokia refer to this combined download from PC and download over the air solution a hybrid and that it is 'the best of both worlds'.

Nokia will pre-install Nokia Maps in new Nseries devices and the software will be available as a free download (Smart2Go) for existing S60 devices.

Here are some selected codes that could come in handy. The below codes all work with the Nokia E61:

To find out the WLAN MAC address of your Nokia E61 type *#62209526#

To find out the Bluetooth MAC address type *#2820#

To find out the software version and the release number of your device type *#0000#

To hard reset and completely erase all data on the device and restore to factory settings type *#7370# (default lock code is 12345)

If You get a certificate error when attempting to install 3rd party software on your S60 3rd Edition smartphone (Nokia E61/E61 ,Nokia N73 or other), it means that you haven’t enabled installation of unsigned SIS files.

When installing they get the following error message “Certificate Error contact the application supplier”.

For  protection against malware there is rather strict application signing procedure implemented for S60 3rd edition. The device comes with the standard setting to check for proper signatures and will not install applications unless they are correctly signed. Although the intention behind mandatory application signing is good it locks out applications that for some reason are not signed and approved.

To accept all applications,Themes and solve this issue: Go to Tools> App. Manager, choose Options> Settings and set Software installation to All and Online certif. check to Off.

However, please be aware that you turned off one extra layer of security for the device.  I normally don't worry too much about malware or viruses but it is a good role of thumb to only download and install applications from known sources.
